U105 BelfastI had an interesting experience this morning. Myself and Andy McMillan (@goodonpaper on Twitter) has an opportunity to promote this evening’s Twestival event for charity:water on Belfast’s U105 FM radio station. Carolyn Stewart seemed genuinely interested in Twitter and had us on air for eight minutes rather than the usual four! Nerve-wracking stuff but despite a few SNAFUs and stumbles, we managed to get the point across well, we think.

The event takes place in Lavery’s Bunker between 20:00 and 22:30 this evening with entertainment, raffle prizes and good craic (still hate that word!). Pay at the door or buy tickets online at the Belfastwestival website – costs £5, 100% of which goes to the charity (Thanks Laverys!)

If I’m not mistaken – I am the first child born in the Ballyholme Windmill. I was born there on July 8, 1941, while Northern Ireland was being bombed by the Germans. My father served in the British Army from 1939 until the end of the war, and was one of the last evacuated from Dunkirk. I would love to have any history you have of the Windmill. My parents told me that American cartographers came to the Windmill to draw maps of Belfast Lough because it resembled the outlind of the Normandy Beach – where they had planned for D-Day. I remember seeing many American warships, etc., in Bangor Bay the day before D-Day.
I’d appreciate whatever you can find out about this information – told to me by my mother who was living in the Windmill at that time.
